Objectives
“The Climate We Speak” focuses on promoting constructive and empathic communication about climate change and sustainability issues among older people and people active in the field of adult education. With our project, we want to help break the climate silence and encourage older people to recognize the connection between climate change and their lives. Older people become visible as experts of their living environment and are heard as “trusted voices” in their communities.
The project aims to
- integrate climate communication into everyday life and encourage exchange with and among older people through low-threshold and creative formats (such as quizzes, excursions, storytelling formats),
- develop practical and science-based materials and methods to support adult educators and make climate communication with older people more accessible and tangible in adult education.
Implementation
Together with adult educators, low-threshold activities (e.g. excursions, games) based on the individual interests and concerns of participants are developed and tried out in “climate hubs”. Furthermore, exchange formats for adult educators (“Learning Communities of Practice”) are developed to strengthen them in their climate communication with older people and to encourage them to implement concrete activities.
We make our experiences and learnings accessible to others with a Collection of Climate Hubs methods and formats, a How-to Guide for people in the field of adult education and webinars.
