Objectives

The starting point of the project “Boys.Lives.Diversity“ are the results of a study commissioned by the MA 13: „Young people in the open youth work – Identities, living conditions and devaluing attitudes“. The study shows that 44 % of the users of youth centres in Vienna have medium or strong devaluing attitudes. This phenomenon is stronger with male than with female youth. Thus the men’s health centre MEN has developed a project that aims at strengthening masculinities that are based on gender equality and emancipation. In workshops in youth centres and other institutions, boys and young men between 13 and 18 have the possibility to reflect and get rid of their devaluing attitudes, learn about human rights and develop their self-worth, empathy and social competencies. In addition, open youth work staff members are provided with male-specific knowledge and options for their work with the target group.

Implementation of the evaluation

queraum is responsible for the evaluation of the process as well as the results of the project activities (process / results evaluation). To support the project team continuously in the planning and implementation process and to promote learning in and from the project, queraum carries out a structured reflection with the team. In the result-oriented part of the evaluation, the effect of the workshops on the boys and young men is evaluated by means of a lowthreshold feedback questionnaire. The multipliers are asked about their satisfaction with the training and the usability of their new knowledge. Staff members and managers of the youth centres are interviewed to assess the benefits for the target group, successes, room for improvement and the sustainable effects of the project.
