Objectives
The project aims to improve the health care for and health literacy of persons with disabilities and to strengthen the expertise of staff members in the health and social care sector. To support people with learning disabilities and/or communication problems and to facilitate the transfer of relevant information into the health system, the project team together with an expert group has developed “GeKo-Wien”. Until today, a “passport” and a folder (www.geko.wien) have been developed. These materials can be used to document personal data, information about competencies, needs, behavior and communication patterns and medical data. The GeKo-Wien materials are being rolled-out and tested at present.
In addition, qualification provisions for professionals in the health and the disability sector have been developed together with (inter-)national experts. For this project phase, the implementation and integration of these training modules into relevant provisions and organisations (e.g. training providers, professional associations) are planned.
Implementation of the evaluation
The evaluation’s focus is on the process as well as on the results and outcomes of both project parts. The aim of the evaluation is to analyse the effectiveness of the provisions, their sustainability and the matching with the target groups. To collect feedback from the users of the GeKo materials, an activating survey is carried out. At two points in time, selected users are interviewed about the usability, comprehensibility and usefulness of the materials. The perspectives of professionals in the health and social sector are also collected in interviews. To find out about the implementation process in training provisions, not only the project team but also key persons in training organisations are interviewed.
The evaluation team supports the project team with the continuous reflection of the project process and the discussion of relevant issues. It also provides learning and dialogue opportunities on the basis of interim results to ensure a high qualitative implementation and to work on the possible further development of the provisions after 2018.
